Countdown to Move

Once you have reserved your new home with Shepherds you’ll have a busy few weeks ahead.  Here are the next steps and when you should complete them;

Go through the reservation checklist with your Sales Executive as soon as possible after reservation.

Inform your solicitor that you have purchased a Shepherd Home today.

Make an appointment with our Independent Financial Advisor or your lender to complete your mortgage application.

After a couple of weeks you should be in receipt of the valuation on your new home, following this your mortgage provider should issue a mortgage offer.

4 weeks after you have reserved you will be expected to exchange contracts and pay a 10% deposit if you are not purchasing through our Part Exchange scheme.

6 weeks before you move you should think about the following;

Confirm the date of completion with your solicitor.

If you are in rented accommodation notify your landlord.

Check that your new home insurance covers you from the date of completion.

Start obtaining quotes from removal firms.

Notify your existing utility companies that you are moving.

Start collecting boxes if you are packing yourself.

Start decluttering.

If purchasing new furniture order now for delivery once you’ve moved in.

2 weeks before moving;

Start to pack non essential items, labelling each box and marking on a floor plan where they are to go.  Pack valuables/photo’s & personal documents separately and store with family/friends.

Start using up the food in the freezer.

If you’re moving to a new area de-register with your Doctor/dentist/optician.

Arrange for the Post Office to redirect your mail.

If you have milk/papers or other services delivered notify them asking to stop their service.

Arrange for children & pets to be taken care of on the day of the move.

Make a list of people/companies who need to be notified of your move and send out change of address cards/emails.

Finalise arrangements with your removal company.

Amend any direct debits relating to the old/new home.

Carry out a Customer Demonstration with the Site Manager.

Discuss arrangement for collecting the keys to your new Shepherds home with your Sales Executive.

The day of your move;

Stay calm & relaxed.

Pack an emergency box containing items like; family/pet medication, tea/coffee/milk/sugar/biscuits, dog food, bedding & take away menus.

Read your meters.
